Person
Bernard Shaw
George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright, critic, and master of social satire who turned theatrical dialogue into a sharp weapon against convention, prejudice, and comfortable hypocrisy. In Pygmalion, Man and Superman, and Saint Joan, he wrote with dazzling wit, provocative logic, and a fondness for characters who refuse to play the roles society assigns them. His vast output includes dozens of plays, essays, criticism, political writing, and an extensive correspondence. Shaw was as unmistakable offstage as he was in print, delighting in public argument and expressing his opinions with fearless confidence. When he received the Nobel Prize in Literature, he accepted the honour but declined the prize money — a gesture perfectly suited to a man who spent his life resisting whatever the world expected him to do.
