Joseph Conrad

Years: 1857–1924Country: United KingdomPrimary language: English

Joseph Conrad was a Polish-British writer who transformed sea adventure into a dark psychological and moral exploration of human beings at the edge of civilization. In Heart of Darkness, Lord Jim, and Typhoon, he wrote with compressed, hypnotic power about guilt, courage, failure, and the darkness that lies not only in unknown lands but within the human soul. His work includes novels, novellas, short stories, essays, and memoir-like prose, much of it shaped by his own years at sea. Remarkably, English was not his first language; he came to it later in life and still became one of its great prose stylists. His literary voice seems born from that movement between languages, continents, and oceans — a place where certainty is always fading somewhere beyond the horizon.
