Lewis Carroll was a British writer, mathematician, and master of literary nonsense, turning childhood imagination into fiction that is playful, logical, and strangely unsettling all at once. In Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, he created Alice, the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, and a whole gallery of figures written with verbal brilliance, absurd humour, and dreamlike ease. His work also includes poetry, mathematical writings, puzzles, letters, and other pieces shaped by wordplay and intellectual traps. Yet behind the whirl of fantasy stood a meticulous logician and Oxford lecturer whose real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Perhaps that is what makes his world so enduring: even its wildest nonsense seems to obey a secret set of rules.
