Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish writer and a master of adventure fiction, blending suspense, moral unease, and effortless storytelling into works that still carry the thrill of discovery. In Treasure Island, he created Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver in a world of maps, mutiny, and sea wind, while Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde turned the divided self into one of literature’s most haunting images. His work includes novels, short stories, essays, travel writing, poems, and children’s verse, all marked by a restless fascination with movement and freedom. Though his health was fragile throughout his life, Stevenson was never simply a writer confined to a room. He travelled through Europe, America, and the Pacific before settling in Samoa — as if determined to shape his own life like an adventure story.
