Stanley G. Weinbaum
Stanley G. Weinbaum was an American science fiction writer who, in a remarkably brief career, changed the way the genre imagined alien life. In A Martian Odyssey, he introduced intelligent beings that do not feel like disguised humans, but like genuinely foreign life forms with their own logic and behavior. His work consists mainly of short stories and shorter science fiction, along with novels and other genre pieces. Weinbaum’s literary career was strikingly short, and much of his work appeared only near the end of his life or posthumously. That brevity makes his legacy all the more remarkable: with very little time, he helped open the door to a more modern vision of extraterrestrial intelligence.
