About the author
Louisa May Alcott was an American writer who transformed the family novel into a vivid space for girls’ ambition, creativity, and independence. In Little Women, she created the March sisters — above all the restless, bookish Jo — with warmth, humour, and a sharp understanding of dreams that do not fit neatly into society’s expectations. Her work includes novels, short stories, children’s tales, and sensational fiction, some of it published under a pseudonym, ranging from domestic realism to darker, more dramatic plots. Although her books often celebrate the comfort of family life, Alcott herself wrote with urgency and discipline, determined to support those she loved. Behind the beloved author of a gentle classic stood a fiercely practical woman who did not merely imagine freedom — she earned it.
