During the war, an unexpected chain of events carries a group of people aboard a German U-boat far beyond familiar routes, until a land appears on the horizon that seems almost to belong to another world. The Land That Time Forgot takes its characters beyond the forbidding cliffs of Caprona into a world where creatures from a vanished age still move through dense, tropical wilderness. Burroughs reveals the mysteries of this strange country little by little, so that every discovery leads naturally to the same question: what lies farther inland? It is the kind of adventure that makes one more chapter almost impossible to resist.

Sign in to send a signalEdgar Rice Burroughs was an American writer of adventure and fantastic fiction who gave the pulp era some of its most enduring heroes. In the Tarzan stories and the Barsoom series, he created worlds of jungles, lost civilizations, alien planets, and fearless adventurers, written with speed, directness, and an infectious appetite for danger. His work includes dozens of novels and stories across adventure, science fiction, fantasy, and western fiction. Before becoming a successful author, Burroughs tried many occupations and began writing partly because he believed he could do at least as well as the popular magazine fiction he was reading. That practical experiment led, unexpectedly, to Tarzan — a character who would become even more famous than the man who created him.
