A. C. Doyle byl britský autor skotského původu, původním povoláním lékař, který položil základu modrní detektivní povídky a stvořil jednu z nejslavnějších literárních dvojic, Sherlocka Holmese a doktora Watsona. Krom několika sbírek detektivních povídek, čtyř detektivních románů, vydal také několik románů, sci-fi Ztracený svět a další práce. Podílel se i na vzniku odvolacícho soudu a byl vášnivým zastáncem spiritismu.
